Bay Street Welcomes New Orthopaedic Surgeon Patrick O’Callaghan, MD

Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine welcomed Orthopaedic Surgeon Patrick O’Callaghan, MD, to its team of specialists in October 2022.

A board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. O’Callaghan graduated from Michigan State University in 2010 with a Bachelor Of Science in Microbiology with concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology, followed by his graduation from the Michigan State College of Human Medicine in 2014. He completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2019, followed by a Hand and Upper Extremity surgical fellowship at the University of Virginia.

Dr. O’Callaghan’s hand, wrist, and elbow special interests include fracture care, arthritis, joint replacement, sports injuries, and pediatric trauma and deformity. He is trained in endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and is an instructor for other surgeons. He is passionate about the care of his patients, and states, “Our hands mold our most meaningful interactions with the world, and it is a privilege to help patients with hand and upper extremity ailments. When I am with a patient, I try to not just understand their condition but what it is holding them back from and their treatment goals. From there my job is to provide education and come together on a treatment plan. Whether it’s reassurance to having surgery, I am dedicated to providing top notch treatment to each and every patient”.

From the onset of a patient relationship, Dr. O’Callaghan believes in the importance of communication and engagement, so patients fully understand treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical.

Together with his wife and two young children, O’Callaghan moved to northern Michigan, settling in Petoskey just this year, where he will make Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine his main practice location. In addition to Petoskey, Dr. O’Callaghan is accepting patient appointments at the Charlevoix, Gaylord, and Cheboygan locations.

“I enjoy various outdoor recreational activities that northern Michigan offers,” he shares. “Helping patients continue to do what they love is the real reward.” In his spare time, Dr. O’Callaghan enjoys being active and playing most all sports, especially soccer, tennis, golf, and basketball. I also enjoy other outdoor recreational activities including hiking, kayaking, and skiing.

He is currently treating patients in the Petoskey, Charlevoix, Gaylord and Cheboygan areas. Bay Street Orthopaedics & Spine offers services across northern lower Michigan including the eastern Upper Peninsula.
