Bay Street Orthopaedic Care:

Expanding Northern Michigan's Specialty Services

Combined with an already well-rounded group of orthopaedic surgeons, northern Michigan residents now benefit from orthopaedic spine and sports medicine specialties. Joining Bay Street Orthopaedics, Anthony Bozzio, MD, and Eric Mancini, MD, further expand the orthopaedic services available through six northern Michigan outreach locations.

Board-eligible Orthopaedic Surgeon Anthony Bozzio, MD, specializes in surgical treatment of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, through both minimally-invasive and traditional procedures. Dr. Bozzio has extensive experience in disc replacement, decompression, discectomy, minimally invasive spinal surgery, and fusion. Additionally, Dr. Bozzio will provide treatment of scoliosis and spine deformity, not previously available in Northern Michigan. He graduated from the University of Utah and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at University of Colorado and completed a spine fellowship at Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas, where he practiced prior to joining Bay Street Orthopaedics.

“I spent two clinical years in Traverse City and many rotations were spent in Petoskey and the surrounding area,” explains Dr. Bozzio. “I was impressed with the level of care for patients in the area, and I am pleased to bring my skills in comprehensive orthopaedic spine care to the community.”

Eric Mancini, MD, is a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon specializing in all areas of sports medicine including: complex shoulder, hip, and knee replacement, repair, and arthroscopy; ACL reconstruction; rotator cuff repair; shoulder instability; and general orthopaedic surgery. He is a graduate of University of Michigan and Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University and completed a sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Mancini has worked with college and professional teams as Assistant Team Doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rams, Kings, Sparks, Anaheim Ducks, USC Trojans Football, and Loyola Marymount University. He hopes to share his experience with area residents and athletes. “I look forward to helping people get back to doing what they enjoy and to working with the athletic community to maintain current levels of sport and activity,” Mancini explains, “and I plan to reach out to coaches and trainers with clinics and educational opportunities.”

To complement expanding surgical staff, Bay Street Orthopaedics has also added a new licensed physician assistant. Graduate of Central Michigan University, Kelsey McConnell, PA-C, has completed extensive education and training in medicine, diagnostics, anatomy, pathology, biochemistry, and pharmacology with over 2,000 hours of practical experience as part of her training. McConnell specializes in upper extremity orthopaedic care.

“A physician assistant has a broad range of clinical skills and works in tandem with the physicians, both in the operating room, hospital and office,” explains Brian Wittenberg, MD, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Bay Street Orthopaedics Senior Partner. “Kelsey McConnell is licensed to perform a broad array of services that were traditionally in the physician’s realm,” adds Dr. Wittenberg. “She will provide services to assist our physicians in continuously providing quality patient care.”
